"One man can make a difference" was Mark's motto when he joined Oceans2Cross. Besides achieving a personal record Mark wanted to show his support to OneMen, an initiative of MIVA that raises awareness for the human rights and welfare of people in third world countries. One single person can make the difference in the lives of many. Pioneers of OneMen fight for their ideals, under often harsh circumstances, right from their hearts and without any pretentions.
Mark's determination, manpower and efforts were key ingredients for his success. He departed on September 18th 2004 from Scheveningen, with his dog Sammy and started his journey across the world. During the 27.000 nautical miles he passed Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin and Cape Horn. After 205 days he arrived back in the Netherlands and for the first time since his departure he set foot ashore.
