I participated solo in the 2017/2018 edition of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, world's toughest row: rowing more than 3,000 miles (4.830 km) from the Canary Island La Gomera to Antigua (Caribbean). Crushing the previous solo world record by 19 days, I arrived in Antigua after 30 days, 7 hours and 49 minutes, just behind The Four Oarsmen, the fastest ever team (29 days, 14 hours and 14 minutes) and beating most other foursome teams. I dedicated this achievement to my mom, as she was on my mind quit a lot during the race and being my biggest motivator. At the time she was battling cancer, so in a way I battled with her. And raised money for the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Foundation for research to make cancer medication affordable.
Now it's time to participate once more in the TWAC, this time in the pairs segment with Kai Wiedmer. We registered for participating in the 2020/2021 edition. For this upcoming adventure we need to be fit and strong, both physically and mentally so we need to train, train and train some more. Tuesday evening Kai and I finally had our first row training together on the water. It felt great to be out there and I can't wait to row together in my new built carbon ocean proof boat. More to come, stay tuned!
The ocean is calling🌊... and we are ready to answer! 💪🏼
